The Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Lego set
is my most favorite set EVER!
Year after year, Lego comes up with amazing creations to thrill and fascinate kids all over the world. 2010 has been no exception, and the Harry Potter Legorange is the best yet. Sparing nothing in detail, the Hogwart's Castle Lego set includes all your favorite features and characters.
Included are Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and 9 other minifigures exclusive to this set: Lord Voldemort, Professor Dumbledore, Professor Snape, Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, Argus Filch and his cat, Mrs Norris and 2 Dementors.
Extra features include;
Dumbledores office features the Sorting Hat, Gryffindor's Sword, a Basilisk fang and secret sliding stairs
Gryffindor common room features fireplace with Sirius Black's face
Tom Riddle's book hidden in the knight's armor
Restricted section of the library included
Astronomy Tower and Vanishing Cabinet
Great Hall decorated with Slytherin and Gryffindor colors
Finally Lego has made some movie/book accurate minifigures, unlike the odd, sometimes almost unrecognizable minifigs from years past. Let's review them;
-Professor McGonagall is relatively accurate, with her green cape... though she should have had a reversible face with glasses.
-Harry Potter is great! Accurate and with cool reversible face. The broomstick is a nice touch.
-Hermione is also good with a reversible face.
-Dumbledore, with yet another reversible face, has a new torso design and a tan wand.
-Flitwick is cute, but looks odd. Then again, he does in the movie too, so it's still accurate!.
-Snape actually has a different torso design than is shown in the packaging, as it's all black with no purple. He also has a black cape and a black wand.
-Voldemort is actually COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from what is shown in the packaging, aside from his face and wand. His clothes are all black rather than white and green, as they should be.
-Mrs. Norris the cat is a nice touch.
-Filch is also different from what you see in the packaging, because his hair is gray, his face is a snarl, and his pants have a printed design of 3 small keys hanging from an orange belt.
-The Dementors have different capes than shown, but they are more detailed, with lots of holes.
The Astronomy Tower is really cool, there's a cool telescope, the library-locking function works well and the vanishing cabinet fits people nicely. In the taller tower there is an owlery and below it is a Gryffindor common room with Sirius' face in the fire and a Marauder's Map. Below that is a knight on a turn-table, behind which is a book. Below that is a Slytherin common room with an edition of the Quibbler.
In the great hall there's lots of really cool food as well as banners with Slytherin and Griffindor on them. In Dumbledore's office there's a neat little shield-shaped trophy that says 'James Potter - Seeker' on it, and a chest with a scroll in it that says 'you are far more powerfull (yes it is spelled that way on the scroll) than you would ever imagine.' Going up the spiral staircase you see a desk with a Daily Prophet on it, and also a magnifying glass. Dumbledore's Office also has many other details such as Gryffindor's sword and The Sorting Hat. All features work rather well.
Pros:
good minifigs
lots of detail
rare pieces
silver sword
printed tiles
good size
features work well
Cons:
Some things are missing and should be included:
Slytherin Students (a common room but no students?!)
death eaters
pensieve in Dumbledore's office
Ron Weasley (how could they leave out Ron?!)
a classroom
more books for library
a chamber of secrets
Overall, any cons are FAR outweighed by the pros and the Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Lego set 4842
is simply awesome!
